One could say the year started on a good note…or supposedly. We had some nerve-racking events at the beginning of the year of course but none was as unprecedented as the pandemic. Most of us had heard about the virus before it hit us… obviously, with all the chaos in China, but it was all fun and games till March.
Two weeks after my birthday, the first big-break was the news of the ASUU warning strike, as you can tell a lot of students where excited…time to rest a bit. I can remember my Torts Law lecturer telling us” we will be having our quiz on the 25th, immediately the strike is called off, see you soon”. Haha, well man proposes…
By then the news of the virus entering the country was going round. Finally, things got twisted and we were asked to vacate the campus on the 23rd. Now emotions moved from happiness to elation. The words in the mouths of my colleagues were “this is an answered prayer, time to read up this courses”, “Lord knows, one more week and I would have given up”, ” I just want to go home!!!, Thank you Lord”. Well…
One week…i’ll start working on my to-do list next week
Two weeks…the figures are still rising so…
One month…O Lord…
This is on the general note. Individually, there are different perspectives. Personally, I have had a good mix of pressure, stress, will, excitement, laziness, feeling very useless sometimes, feeling useful some other times. One thing for sure I have learnt is, time is never the problem, so we all need to look for another excuse.
Some minutes before I wrote this, I remembered at the beginning of the pandemic break, I had a list of things I wanted to do, well I won’t say I totally flopped, but this blog was one or is one…whatever, then I thought to myself, what would be your excuse. Not like it’s the first time I asked the question, but I always had an answer, I’m not just into it, I don’t think it’s my thing, I don’t know, well there was only one answer all along, no excuse.
Truth is living in a pandemic is difficult, yea, but in comparison yours is probably less difficult than that millions of people, so make do with it, it will pass, but the time will never be recovered.
