The trending topic on social media at the moment is justice. Millions of people have been campaigning online with hashtags seeking Justice for one or another.
It began with the racist killing of 25 year old Ahmaud Arbery a black man who was pursued by two white men and shot in South Georgia in February. His murder sparked rage amongst civil rights activists, celebrities, Africans in diaspora and other well meaning people on social media #justiceforahmaud#, reviving the #blackslivesmatter# campaign. His killers were not arrested until two months after his death, the prolonged prosecution raised agitations for Justice across the country and on social media. Tom Durden, the prosecutor handling the case expressed that evidence would be submitted to the Grand jury on June 12 after the lifting of the social distancing restrictions.
Matters yet unsettled, May saw the inhumane murder of George Floyd, who was killed by a Derek Chauvin a police officer who claimed to have been restraining him by kneeling on his neck and choking the victim to death. George’s death raised more outrage on social media #justiceforfloyd# in the United States with hundreds protesting on the streets. His cries of “I can’t breathe” have been written on placards and has become the motto of the campaign #blacklivesmatter#
